Abstract
A diagrammatic method is developed which enables matrix elements between determinantal states with non-orthogonal components to be evaluated as a series in the overlap integrals. It is shown that the first and second order perturbation energies may be expressed as linked clusters of diagrams. These results are used to determine MO-LCAO expressions relating to the crystal field of rare-earth ions.
