Abstract

Introduction: arterial hypertension is considered a chronic and systemic disease that affects universally with a predominance of the female sex and with a peak of incidence above 45 years of age. Despite being considered an asymptomatic disease, it produces a large number of complications that can endanger the patient's life. Objective: design a guide for care for hypertensive adults in institutions of the Ministry of Health in the city of Riobamba. Material and methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in 257 patients diagnosed with arterial hypertension and 18 general practitioners belonging to the Lican health center and the General Provincial Teaching Hospital of Riobamba. The general characteristics were determined, as well as the individual perception of their knowledge related to the general and specific aspects of arterial hypertension. The guide for the care of hypertensive adults was designed. Results: average age of patients of 47.03 ± 22.97 years and general practitioners of 33.07 ± 7.93, with a predominance of patients and female general practitioners with 65.37% and 66.67% respectively. 41.53% of patients' patients reported that their general knowledge related to AHT is regular or bad. Conclusions: there is a diminished perception of knowledge about the general and specific characteristics of HT by patients and general practitioners.
