Abstract

For the purposes of this article Mrs. Newell interviewed Dr. Van Waters, the well‐known social worker and juvenile‐court referee who is now in charge of the State Reformatory for Women at Framingham, Mass. Here the spirit and method of individualized treatment is applied to occupational problems. The work that the women do within the walls is definitely a part of their vocational training and guidance for the work which they will do when they leave. There is no claim that a perfect system or service has been set up, but it is certainly a hopeful and inspiring experiment. Mrs. Newell begins the story, and Dr. Van Waters continues it in her own words.
