Abstract
Guglielmo Scarlato, MD, professor of neurology at the University of Milan School of Medicine, died unexpectedly on July 17, 2002 at home with family at his side. He left behind a legacy of leadership in clinical care, teaching, and research. Guglielmo Scarlato was born in Naples, Italy. He attended medical school at the University of Naples, graduating cum laude in 1954. He completed his research fellowship at the Max Planck Institut fur Hirnforschung, the Hopital De La Salpetriere, and at the Histochemistry Center of Italian National Research Council from 1955 to 1957. He was a dedicated “fixture” at the University of Milan School of Medicine, where he became assistant professor of neurology in 1957, associate professor of neurology in 1972, and full professor of neurology in 1979.
