Scientific as well as commercial applications generate increasingly large amounts of data, often referred as the “data deluge”, which necessitates collaboration and sharing among the national and international research and industrial organization. Simply purchasing high-capacity, highperformance storage and networking systems and adding them to the existing infrastructure of the collaborating institutions does not solve the underlying and highly challenging data handling problem.
