Abstract
Which technology has the highest cost efficiency? How much time is needed for an investment to become economically viable? What is the potential return on investment? How much financial risk is involved? These are questions asked by all network operators and telecommunications regulators around the world. However, despite thousands of articles published annually on the technical characteristics of telecommunications systems, there is a lack of research focusing on the potential engineering-economic ramifications of these new technologies.
