Abstract

In part 2 of this two-part special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Molecular, Biological, and Multi-Scale Communications, we continue to honor the centennial of Claude Shannon (born April 30, 1916) by showcasing recent advances in biological and bio-inspired information theory. Part 2 includes papers on information theory and molecular communication, optimal encoding of memories, maximum entropy as a principle for optimal energy-constrained neural encoding, duality of identification and decoding in dendritic neuronal models, an analysis of DNA sequence reconstruction, and a quantitative and qualitative connection between information, fitness, and biological evolution.
