Abstract
The behavior of smoke and heat diffusion when a fire breaks out in a large scale tunnel that have been revealed by a report on fire experiments inside the Shimizu No. 3 Tunnel on the New Tomei Expressway that is now under construction, and by the results of other experiments march in 2001. The experiments were carried out for the following reason. Tunnels on the New Tomei and Meishin Expressway with three lanes plus shoulder are large-scale tunnels with an inside section area of 115m2. Because this inside section area is about twice that of a two-lane tunnel, it is very important to inspect that the smoke behavior and heat diffusion in such large-scale tunnels that differ from those in two-lane tunnels. Therefore, experiments were carried out in an actual tunnel to clarify the characteristics of fires in large-scale tunnels in order to enact tunnel emergency facility standards for large-scale tunnels. And we evaluated it about behavior of smoke in a fire, diffusion of heat, refuge environment by simulation using LES turbulent model.
