Abstract
An investigation on the use of dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuators (DBDPAs) for vortex control applications was conducted experimentally. In this study, to control a vortex generated behind a normal flat plate, DBDPAs were placed on a wall behind the flat plate and on a back surface of the normal flat plate. The experiment was carried out in the 200 mm × 200 mm circuit-type wind tunnel having the working section of 2000 mm. A flow velocity was measured by using particle image velocimetry (PIV) and laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV). When both of the DBDPAs were operated simultaneously, a larger scale vortex with positive vorticity behind the flat plate was suppressed due to induced jets tangential to the wall and the back surface of the flat plate.
