Abstract
Abstract A new organic single crystal of bis (guanidinium) terephthalate trihydrate (BGTTH) was successfully grown by slow evaporation solution method (SESM) at room temperature. The title compound possess to monoclinic system with the space group C2/c, it is identified through single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The characteristic functional groups of BGTTH crystal were confirmed by FTIR study. The optical absorption spectrum shows that the lower cut-off wavelength of bis (guanidinium) terephthalate trihydrate is 297 nm and has a wide transparency window. The luminescence study shows that the BGTTH crystal has high degree of luminescence. Thermal stability of BGTTH crystal was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis. Microhardness measurement reveals that the BGTTH crystal belongs to soft material category. The third order nonlinear optical parameters (n2 = −5.5289 × 10−9 (cm2/W), β = 2.59 × 10−4 (cm/W) and χ (3) = 7.36 × 10−6 (esu)) were calculated by Z-scan technique.
