Abstract

Growth rates of single crystals of hydrated aluminium potassium sulphate (K-alum) and potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) have been measured at 40°C in an agitated bath.Subsequently, growth rates of K-alum and KDP crystals have been measured at 3940°C in a pilot vertical cone-type crystallizer.Growth rates of single crystals are compared with those measured in the pilot vertical cone-type crystallizer. The agreement between the two sets of results suggests that it may be possible to predict crystal growth rates in cone-type crystallizers from simple laboratory-scale measurements.
