Abstract

Yellow finned barb is one of the potential fish from the Lau Belawan River, North Sumatra. This study aims to determine the growth patterns of Yellow finned barb (Mystacoleucus marginatus) in the Lau Belawan River, Pancur Batu District, North Sumatera Province. The research was carried out from November 2022 until January 2023. Fish were caught using throwing nets with a mesh size of 0.2 inches with the help of local fishermen. The research location is divided into three stations with different characteristics for each station. During the study, the number of catches obtained was 114 (65 male fish and 49 female fish), with a total length of fish ranging from 51 to 162 mm. The catch at each station was different; stations II and III had 41 individuals, while stations I had only 32 individuals. The length of fish caught was dominated by 93–106 mm, and the lowest number caught was around 149–162 mm. The fish caught consisted of males and females, with a sex ratio 1:1.33. The growth pattern of male Yellow finned barb is negative allometric, while the female is positive allometric. Meanwhile, the condition factor value for male fish is 0.87; the female is 1.07.
