Abstract

Abstract Nine-year-old Pinus radiata in a plantation on uitramafic soil at Black Ridge, Southland, vary greatly in size. Four measures of growth (tree height, basal diameter, and dwarf shoot size and weight) were recorded in 50 plants, together with concentrations of 18 elements in current-year follage. Correlation coefficients and multiple regression of element concentrations against tree height Indicated that phosphorus, potassium, copper, and nitrogen were the main elements influencing Pinus radiata growth on this soil.
