Abstract

Processes are described for the synthesis and melt growth of rare-earth-doped K2LaCl5, K2BaCl4, and K2SrCl4, using rare-earth oxides as starting materials. The solubility of rare-earth activators in Bridgman-grown crystals are determined, and the spectroscopic properties of K2LaCl5〈Nd〉 crystals are investigated.
