Abstract

Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) single crystals growth by traditional growth techniques is difficult. We successfully grew <;110> oriented soft PZT single crystals with high TC ~230°C via solid-state single crystal growth (SSCG) at 1150°C for 8h. The growth habit plane was investigated via observing the thermally etched cross section and the {100} growth habit plane were observed. The electric field-induced strains for <;110> oriented soft PZT single crystal was measured and the piezoelectric properties d33 * is 1154 pm/V. The d33 measured by d33 meter is 1028 pC/N. A higher electric field-induced strains is expected for <;100> oriented crystal. These results open a door for the growth of high TC and high piezoelectric charge coefficients PZT single crystal.
