Abstract

The growth of large single crystals from aqueous solution remains an important challenge. The physical mechanisms involved in such growth and the problems entailed for successful growth processes are reviewed. Approaches to these problems are discussed with emphasis on recent research progress. Coverage includes solution preparation, crystallizer technology, bulk supersaturation control, and measures to avoid solution inclusion flawing. Although current production goals will probably not be met in the near future, fundamental advances are being made in understanding the general process of crystallization from solution.
