Abstract
A new flux system, CaO–Li 2O–B 2O 3, has been applied to growing La 2CaB 10O 19 single crystals. Transparent crystals of La 2CaB 10O 19 with a typical size of 30×25×9 mm 3 have been successfully grown from the new flux. The advantages of the new flux system, in terms of lower growth temperature and reduced incorporation of flux inclusions, are discussed in comparison with the previously utilized CaO·2B 2O 3 self-flux.
