Abstract

Single-crystalline films of La 2− x Sr x CuO 4 were prepared on nonsuperconducting substrates of Zn-doped La 2CuO 4 single crystals by the liquid phase epitaxial (LPE) technique. The La 2− x Sr x CuO 4 single-crystalline films, less than 50 μm thick, were subgrain- and crack-free. The Sr content of the La 2− x Sr x CuO 4 films was determined to be 0.07–0.11, but the films were contaminated with less than 3 at.% aluminum as a result of the use of alumina crucibles. Some of the La 2− x Sr x CuO 4 films exhibited superconductivity with T c onset ≈30 K and Δ T c≈20 K.
