Abstract

Large spindle/rod shaped Zn2Al-layered double hydroxide crystals with specific crystallographic orientation of active (101) and (104) facets have been prepared by rapid aqueous co-precipitation followed by hydrothermal treatment. The rods have an average aspect ratio around 12 (length of the major axis to width ratio) and we observed that the aggregation tendency of the particles is significantly low. The evolution of the rod like morphology after the hydrothermal treatment was explained using dissolution and recrystallization mechanism.
