Abstract

Abstract In binary mixtures exposed to gravitation and a large enough temperature gradient a complicated transition occurs from a pure heat-conducting to a convective state. During this transition, the spatiotemporal behaviour of the concentration field in the bulk of the layer and close to the boundaries varies dramatically, which is the main issue of this publication.
