Abstract

Calcium fluoride (CaF 2) crystals were grown by gradient freeze technique (GF), and especially a novel shaped crystal growth method was presented to grow dome-shaped crystal. A calcium fluoride dome was successfully grown directly in the shaper we designed. The obtained CaF 2 block and dome demonstrate a high integrity and optical quality. The defects and crystallographic properties were characterized by chemical etching and the FWHM of the rocking curve respectively.
