Abstract

Abstract The slow evaporation procedures were executed to develop pure (PN) and magnesium doped ninhydrin (M4N) single crystals. Various required characterizations were focused to find structural, mechanical, thermal and nonlinear optical properties. From the XRD studies, the crystal structure of PN and M4N single crystal is monoclinic and space group is P21. Mechanical power of PN and M4N single crystal was observed using Vickers microhardness studies. The coefficients of work-hardening values are calculated as 6.45 and 5.06 for undoped and doped ninhydrin M4N crystals. With the use of thermal analysis, the decomposition temperatures of the crystals were studied. The Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) efficiency of PN and M4N were tested by using the powder Kurtz technique and it illustrates that the addition of magnesium leads to improve the NLO behaviour of the M4N crystals.
