Abstract

Reproducible numbers ofSalmonella enteritidis,Klebsiella pneumoniaeandStaphylococcus aureuswere mixed in various proportions and their growth in Rappaport–Vassiliadis enrichment broth quantified at 4 h intervals over a 24-h period. No limit in the ability of the RV medium to detectSalmonellain the presence of low or high numbers of competing organisms could be observed. After incubation salmonellae were found in all mixtures regardless of the composition of the mixtures.
