Summary

Introduction

Use of growth hormone therapy (GHT) in adolescents is not common in Sri Lanka. In this study we aimed to assess the response to GHT in adolescents in our setting presenting with short stature. Short stature is a distressing problem for the affected children or adolescents or their families. It is defined as height more than 2 standard deviations below the mean or below the 3rd percentile for age, sex and ethnicity [1]. A study carried out in 1991 in Sri Lanka showed that out of 16,001 children screened for short stature 172 were identified as short out of which 12 children were diagnosed to have growth hormone deficiency by provocative testing [4]
