Abstract

AbstractSixteen uremics with normal fasting blood glucose were studied. Abnormal glucose tolerance was a frequent finding. The initial insulin response to glucose was normal. Ten out of the 15 uremics studied with oral glucose exhibited a paradoxical rise in serum growth hormone. These uremics were significantly more intolerant to glucose than their counterpart with normal growth hormone response.
