Abstract

Amorphous thin-film waveguides having low scattering and absorption losses at 1.06 μm have been sputtered from a neodymium pentaphosphate target. A narrow range in substrate temperature for the growth of this phase was found and is reported along with the other deposition conditions. Fluorescence lifetime, stoichiometry, and the effect of lanthanum addition to the target were also investigated.
