Growth and development of hand‐reared Maned wolf Chrysocyon brachyurus at Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago

Abstract

In 1991 2.1 Maned wolf Chrysocyon brachyurus pups were born at Lincoln Park Zoo. Because of high i infant mortality in mother‐reared pups the Maned wolf Species Survival Program recommends that offspring are removed for hand‐rearing (Rodden, 1995).] This paper documents the formula, feeding technique, weaning, housing, medical treatment and behavioural enrichment involved in the hand‐rearing of these three and a (J pup born 11 months later. Comparative data from other zoos are also 1 presented.
