Abstract

Tungsten doped tantalum pentoxide (WTa2O5) nanostructured film has been successfully prepared via a facile eco-friendly one-step hydrothermal method on tantalum substrate. The synthesized sample was characterized by various techniques and its photo catalytic activity was investigated in methylene blue degradation under xenon light irradiation. Results indicated that the introduction of tungsten into Ta2O5 promoted the light absorption performance, which resulted in a high photo catalytic activity of WTa2O5 nanostructure. WTa2O5 sample showed a methylene blue degradation rate of 0.0085min−1 which was about 9 times higher than those of pure Ta2O5. The quenching effects of different scavengers demonstrate that the active species of O2-• and OH• play major roles in the whole photo degradation process of methylene blue. It is expected that this new WTa2O5 nanostructure may be a promising candidate for organic pollutant degradation.
