Abstract

l-lysinium Succinate (LLMS), an organic nonlinear optical (NLO) material, was grown by controlled evaporation technique at room temperature. The growth condition was standardised using classical nucleation theory for growing better quality crystals. The grown crystal was then subjected to single crystal XRD study, UV–vis–NIR and FTIR spectral analyses, dielectric study,SEM–EDAX analysis, thermal and NLO studies. Single crystal XRD study reveals that the grown crystal belongs to monoclinic system with cell parameters a=5.19Å, b=9.01Å, c=5.62Å; β=91.82° with volume V=263Å3 and space group P21. FTIR spectral study was used to identify the functional groups present in the material. Optical properties were analyzed using UV–vis–NIR spectrum. The dielectric behaviour of the material was also studied at different frequencies and temperatures. SEM-EDAX analysis was made to understand the microstructure and the composition of the material. Thermal studies were carried out to discuss the thermal stability and various decomposition stages of the material. The grown crystal was finally tested for second harmonic generation to evaluate the NLO efficiency.
