Abstract

Managed care and other market forces have placed increasing demands on mental health professionals in private practice. Forensic psychology is one area of practice that has many advantages over conventional clinical practice in that it is managed care free, generally more lucrative, as well being intellectually and emotionally challenging. This article is written for clinicians who already practice primarily in this area, as well as those doing some forensic work who wish to increase their practice and/or expand into other areas of forensic practice. This article will discuss ethical, time and cost efficient ways of acquiring the requisite skills for such practice expansion as well as ways of effectively marketing these new subspecialties.
