Abstract

Ultrathin-layer isoelectric focusing in polyacrylamide gels containing a combination of the separators 3-( N-Morpholino)propanesulphonic acid (MOPS) and N-2-Hydroxyethylpiperazine N′-2-ethanesulphonic acid (HEPES) with narrow range Pharmalytes (pH 4·5–5·4) has been used to identify the six common group-specific component (Gc) phenotypes in bloodstains. An improvement in the separation between the Gc1F and Gc1S bands has been achieved over that previously reported for ultrathin-layer gels and which compares favourably with the separation of GclF and Gc1S bands in Immobiline gels.
