Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper addresses how ethnicity of a group worker affects his/her practice by exploring three demands group work practice makes on a group worker that are discordant with Asian-Pacific Island ethnic beliefs and values. The three demands to be discussed are: assuming a non-hierarchical role of authority, exploring conflict, and exploring feelings within a group. Examples of each are given through the lens of an Asian Pacific Islander group worker.
