Abstract

Group velocities of both Rayleigh and Love waves have been accurately determined in the period range from 30 to 150 s, by means of the band-pass filtering and group-delay time methods. The paths across the Pacific include, on the average, 91% ocean basin proper. Phase velocities appropriate for pure oceans are obtained by integrating the experimental group velocities. These sets of pure ocean data can be used for stringent tests of oceanic mantle models. Some of the pre-existing data for the tectonic ocean are summarized with some new data added, in order to show the regional differences among various oceans.
