Abstract

Despite the theoretical and practical value of studying ethical decision making, we know little about group ethical decision making. The existing research pays little attention to inputs and group processes of group ethical decision making. In this paper I, a) propose a social influence model that highlights the influence nature of group ethical decision making, b) identify a subset of group members that is likely to advocate ethical solutions in groups and three types of influence (i.e., normative, informational, and emotional influence) that the subset can have on group members, c) discuss characteristics of group members and groups affecting the three influence processes, and d) outline situational factors that influence group ethical decision making. I provide research propositions and discuss theoretical contributions and practical implications.
