Abstract

A comparison of efficiency was made of group assertion therapy and group insight therapy. The two types of therapy were conducted on groups of 5 and 7 hospitalized patients, free from psychotic thought disorder. The two therapies were conducted concurrently over a 6-wk. period. The assertion group showed a significantly greater total decrease on the clinical scales of the MMPI than the insight group. The assertion group showed significant decreases on the D and Pt scales of the MMPI, nearly significant decreases on the Pd, Pa, and Sc scales and a nearly significant increase on the dominance-submission dimension of the Leary ICL. The insight group showed no test change that approached significance.
