Abstract

Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) dithiocarbamate complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, UV–Vis, FTIR, 1H- and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The complexes were thermolysed at 180°C and used as single molecule precursors for the synthesis of HDA capped ZnS, CdS and HgS nanoparticles and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) nanocomposites. The optical and structural properties of the nanoparticles and nanocomposites were studied by UV–Vis, PL, XRD and SEM. The crystallites sizes of the nanoparticles varied between 3.03 and 23.45nm. SEM and EDX analyses of the nanocomposites confirmed the presence of the nanoparticles in the polymer matrix.
