Abstract

Ground-based cloud observation is an important factor in the hydrological cycle, the earth radiation balance, and climate change. Recently, the algorithms with cloud cover evaluation develop rapidly. Nevertheless, there is still no comprehensive study to compare the advantages and disadvantages of various algorithms. For this reason, we will give a comprehensive study on this subject in this paper. First of all, the development situation of cloud cover evaluation is presented. Then, we give a general idea of each method and compare the performance of several methods under two ground-based cloud databases. Finally, the theory of the results is analyzed.
