Abstract
A supersymmetric one-dimensional field theory is obtained from SU(2) supersymmetric pure Yang-Mills theory in 3 + 1 dimensions using an improved Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The gauge-fixing procedure employed involves a mixing of spin and isospin degrees of freedom. Despite the fact that supersymmetry imposes an apparently overdetermined set of equations on the ground-state wave functions, we find their asymptotic behavior. They decay exponentially. By straightforward modifications, we determine the asymptotic behavior of the ground-state wave functional of the original supersymmetric Yang-Mills theoy. A few related issues are discussed.
