Abstract
Ground-state ($p, t$) cross sections measured for five $\mathrm{sd}$-shell nuclei are, with one exception, explained well by the shell-model calculations of Chung and Wildenthal. The deviation in the case of the $^{18}\mathrm{O}(p, t)^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction is quantitatively explained by taking account of the core-excited components in $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ and $^{18}\mathrm{O}$.
