Abstract
When human rights are mentioned, one usually thinks first of the classic civil and political rights. These are mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and regional treaties such as the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the American Convention on Human Rights, and the African Charter on Human Rights and Peoples’ Rights. In this chapter, gross violations of such rights are examined.
