Abstract

1. Grinding of test specimens of porous cermets was accompanied by the appearance in the surface layer of first-order residual tensile stress, reaching 40–100 daN/mm2. 2. The value of the residual stress can be controlled within certain limits by changing the grinding depth, the feed rate and the speed of the table. 3. Residual tensile stress has a beneficial effect on the resistance to wear of the surface layer of powdered-metal materials.
