Abstract

In February 2000, a Grimmia collecting trip was made in the Nepalese Khumbu valley. Grimmia Hedw. is the most abundantly occurring moss genus in this area, and from Lukla (2866 m) up to Mt Everest base camp (5400 m) ten species were encountered. A key is presented. G. handelii Broth., hitherto only known by gametophytes from China, was found with sporophytes, and is described and illustrated. The other species are briefly discussed.
