Abstract

Renewable energy resources development has been a driving factor in accelerating changes in power system across the world. The main trend of renewable energy resources deployment is PV and Wind Turbine or Variable Renewable Energy (VRE). VRE has intermittent characteristics, therefore, the integration to the power grid need special attention. These conditions also occur in the biggest power grid in Indonesia, Jawa-Bali System. This study's objective was to establish a system stability approach for integrating VRE in Java Bali System. Several scenarios of VRE penetration level that will be used in these simulations are VRE maximum capacity based on the current system readiness, VRE installation target in PLN's 10-year development plan (RUPTL 2018–2027), VRE installation target in presidential regulation of RE's target share (RUEN 2017), and the effect VRE integration requirements that stated in RUPTL. The results of every scenario will show that VRE installation will affect Jawa-Bali Grid operation, but the VRE integration requirement that stated in RUPTL 2018–2027 will enhancing system flexibility to be the solution of VRE integration.
