Abstract

In the present paper we will investigate the performance of error estimators for methods using finite volume upwind schemes on unstructured grids. We first investigate the order of convergence of these methods using anlytical solutions. We will then compare the predictions of two error estimators based on Richardson extrapolation and on reconstructio n of the solution gradient with the exact errors. The two-dimensional Euler equations will be used as the flow model on three test cases with analytical solutions: Supersonic vortex, Ringleb flow and a supersonic confluence. The performance of the error estimation is in general very good.
