Abstract

Greywater is a part of wastewater consisting of bathing, showers, washbasin, laundry and kitchen wastewater generated from household and public buildings. The greywater may be classified on the basis of load of pollutant as low pollutant load greywater (LGW), moderate pollutant load greywater (MGW), high pollutant load greywater (HGW), mixed greywater and mixed greywater appears to be a highly polluted than other type of greywater. In present paper, the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of greywater reported in developed and developing countries are presented and analyzed. The characteristics data have shown that pollution strength of greywater is more observed in the developing countries while quantity of greywater production is less. The COD:BOD ratio of greywater also shows that all type of greywater has good biodegradability except some LGW in developing countries and mixed greywater in developed countries.
