Abstract

Basically, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) effectively enhances the radio communication with improved capacity and reliability. However, it suffers from multiple expensive RF chains, as it holds numerous antennas at both the transmitter and receiver side. This drawback can be removed by the optimum selection of antenna. Accordingly, this paper proposes a novel antenna selection scheme for LTE system using the recently developed meta-heuristic algorithm called Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO). According to this experiment, the best antenna is selected only at the transmitter side. In fact, this paper carries the experiment for different antenna selection configurations include (2 × 2), (4 × 2) and (4 × 4) MIMO system. In addition, it portrays the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance analysis for the system with (Transmit Antennas (TAS). Finally, it compares the performance of the proposed GWO-TAS with the conventional Euclidean Distance based TAS (EDB-TAS) and Ergonic Capacity based (ECB-TAS) in terms of BER analysis. Hence, the proposed GWO-based antenna selection is effective with reduced BER.
