Abstract

A 51-year-old Romanian male without a significant past medical history presents with shortness of breath, bilateral lower extremity swelling and right upper extremity swelling and pain. Doppler ultrasound confirmed an extensive right upper extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). He was anticoagulated with intravenous heparin. He developed hemodynamic instability on Day 2 of hospitalization and required vasopressors. A left femoral triple lumen catheter was placed urgently. Computed tomography (CT) angiography of the chest excluded pulmonary embolism. A transthoracic echocardiogram revealed severely impaired left ventricular function with an ejection fraction of 10%. …
