Abstract

Abstract This is a general review of the use of mullet in polyculture systems in the Israeli fish-farms for the past 10–15 years. Two species of mullets are reared in Israel in fresh- and brackishwater ponds as well as in Lake Tiberias: Mugil cephalus and Mugil capito . The data collected in this work deals with the following subjects. 1. (1) Annual and bi-annual rearing of mullets as a component in a polyculture system. 2. (2) The density of mullet stocking and the effect of the initial weight on both individual growth and total yield of mullets in ponds. 3. (3) The inter-relationships between carp and mullets in fish ponds and the effect of additional feeding on mullets.
