Abstract

Tourism is growing and so are its concerns. The tourism industry has gone along with finding solutions to curbing the negative effects that it is generating. Under the umbrella of sustainable tourism several forms of tourism have emerged as alternatives to mass tourism. The tourists, however, seem to be lagging behind in their tourism action. The acknowledged deficit of ethics in tourism calls for more tourism ethics exposure. Enhancing our understanding of ethics and applying this understanding to our tourism actions may contribute to an effective adoption of innovative practices, towards spreading the seeds of a tourism that is more responsible. This study assesses the ethical predisposition of tourists. The results are based on a sample of respondents from the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and Lithuania.
