Abstract

The capital project planning tools and flowchart are innovative applications in greenhouse gas emissions management. They allow capital project teams to quickly determine the magnitude of potential greenhouse gas concerns for their projects, and then tailor their analyses appropriately. This assures that any capital project team, regardless of the significance of greenhouse gas emissions for their project, will devote the appropriate level of effort, at the right times, and with the necessary support tools, to evaluating the potential impacts and opportunities associated with those emissions. Development and implementation of the Chevron Texaco Protocol and the SANGEATM software are key actions for ChevronTexaco in both managing our emissions and energy utilization, and in taking a leadership role in promoting standardization of emissions estimating in the petroleum industry. A credible, systematic approach to greenhouse gas emissions estimating, as embodied in the ChevronTexaco Protocol and the SANGEATM software, provides strategic value as one addresses the climate change issue.
